The vanilla bean comes from an orchid plant. It's tropical and grows like a vine up trees. It gets very tall and that's where the flowers and eventually the bean is found. You can buy the orchid in Aus but I don't think you have much chance of producing any beans. If you do get to grow it and get beans then come back on here and let me into your secret.
