Good sized tomatoes on a small bush

Posted 159 days ago

I know I am probably asking the impossible but I am desperate to find a tomato bush rather than vine which grows reasonably large fruit because I love stuffing them and one favourite is herbs with an egg broken into it and baked for breakfast or lunch. I am full body disabled including non ambulatory and I just cannot cope with the weight of those heavy vines. I grow heaps of pumpkins, squashes and melons but they run along the ground. Peas are not heavy and I have found a great little bush for beans but I just cannot find a bush for proper sized tomatoes, not cherry tomatoes or small tomatoes. Can someone help, please?

There are dwarf tomato bushes available. I haven't ever grown them but I'm sure your nursery could help you find out about them.

There are plenty of dwarf bushes with full size fruit available.

Eden Seeds sell about a dozen varieties, just request their catalouge online

dwarf plants are determinate, which means their fruit all ripen at once making for a bumper crop

this good for market gardeners when it comes to harvesting

but home growers usually prefer tall plants which are indeterminate and thus crop over an extended period

I have been growing dwarf bushes since the 1960's

KY1 is the best variety and it is usually available at garden centres early in the season

another good one is the San Marzano a dwarf plant with full sized egg tomatoes of exellent flavour this is also available from garden centres early in the season
and the seeds are sold by D T BROWN available through
TEK stores

The Diggers Club sell a range, now is the time to go on line and download their current seed catalouge

good luck
