Screening Hedges/Tallow trees Posted 606 days ago My house is situated on a North-East facing block and have a sloping garden bed in the middle of the spilt level lawn. The garden bed used to have four Westringia on it but it started to died off and has been removed. It was a good screen from the street(our bedroom windows face the road)and would like something similar for privacy. Can any WA gardeners suggest another suitable hedge for our conditions eg sandy soils? Diosma's seem to grow well but I would like some alternatives to choose from. Also, can anyone tell me about Chinese Tallows? If they had any root problems or diseases? Thanks. |

RE: Screening Hedges/Tallow trees Posted 592 days ago Westringias are shrubs and tallows are trees. Looking for something similar then look no further than cheese and chalk!!You can do alot better than diosmas if its shrubs youre after. Research and look, for example,at Bush Xmas, the range of Durantas, other varieties of westringia,Plumbago Royal Cape. How about natives? For eg look into grevillias, callistemon or agonis, each depending on height and the desired effect. If its trees you want then (for me)Tallows are the bees knees and can be under planted to create that screen affect |
