Problem with Buxus Japonica hedge Posted 747 days ago Hi everyone,
We are located in Sydney.
We have a well established Japonica Buxus hedge (about 7 years old) in 2 x 5 meter lengths. Up until about 18 months ago they looked very healthy and green.
Over the last 18 months or so, I have noticed that small sections of the bushes have been turning brown and dying. I have been removing the dead branches. The hedge does not look as healthy as it once did. I think the outside of the leaves turn brown and then the rest of the leave dies.
Back in November I tested the PH of beds and it was reading between 6 and 6.5 (apparently they like 6.5 to 7.5.) I added some dolomite Lime and waited. So far no difference. I also fertilized with Organic Xtra.
I am worried that we are going to loose the hedge.
I have checked for signs of fungus etc on the branches and leaves and can't see anything and there does not appear to be any nasty little critters.
Could this be something as simple as not enough watering? A few years ago we changed from a sprinkler watering system to a drip system that is automatically triggered 2 times a week for 2 hours at a time.
_________ Best Regards
