flowering ponytail plant

Posted 281 days ago

my ponytail plant has six flower stalks. Should I cut these stalks off? Its a very big ponytail with at least 10 offshoots growing on it as well, I know these can be removed and grown seperately, but don't know what to do with them either. Thanks for any feedback

Well if I could have one flowering stalk I would be happy, not sure I can help you at all, but I have a pony tail plant and it looks sick, the leaves at the bottom all turn yellow and soon I won't have any leaves left at all.
Anyone any suggestions. It is in a pot on the East facing veranda. Thanks

I have two flowering ponytails myself and don't know what to do after the plants flower. Do I cut them off or leave them? But with the yellowing leaves have read that you just trim them off and trim the remaing leaf into slender leaf. Hope that helps.

thanks for that, I have since taken 3 flower stalks off and dried the seeds and I'm about to take the following 3 off this weekend. It seems OK to me? It's the only way to get the seeds anyway! I don't know about how to fix the leaf problem but I know that it only needs limited water - theres a BB fact sheet about them and it said to be careful. maybe that's what's causing the problem? Sorry can't be more helpful - does anyone know about what to do with the seeds now?

i have just planted out 100 seeds and i was lucky enough to get all but 8 to grow ..i purchased the seeds from a seller on the net and he just said be patient ..so i waited for about 3 months before i saw any new seedlings.. i use worm castings on all my ponytails and im proud to say they have grown to huge heights in a short space of time .. good luck ...

I would definitely cut the flowers off the tree. They look magnificent, but once they have flowered the tree will use a lot of energy to maintain the flowers until the flowers die.

I have a ponytail in a pot. I'm not sure how old it is my mum gave it to me about 13yrs ago. It has been in the same pot all that time. How old does a ponytail tree need to be before it flowers? I never knew they flowered at all. Would love to see one.
