Gardenia SOS!!

Posted 736 days ago

Help! My Gardenia Augusta Professor Pucci's seem to be beyond help....They are in full sun, part shade and in sandy soil. I have fertilised them, water them regularly (extra on super hot days) and have added a wetting agent recently to help. They have mulch and I am about to add a soil improver to help them.I have also tried seasol to no avail.

The leaves are curled, yellowing and dry....I have put shade cloth over them in the last few hot days but nothing seems to revive them. Can someone help please as I don't want to lose them.
thanks

Is there any black sooty stuff on any of the leaves? If so you may need to implement some control with white oil on both leaves and stems. If not perhaps they are getting too much sun. Early morning is OK but not the fierce mid day sun. Its been hot recently in Perth so perhaps this has caused some damage. Mulch will help to cool roots and maintain soil moisture.

I think also that Gardenias prefer an acid soil. If they are in sand perhaps its too alkaline? Need to go to a good nursery to see what they have to test and remedy the soil if needed.

Also perhaps there is some soil deficiency, try giving them some micro nutrients.

At this time of the year they should be looking great, so if they are not then some of the suggestions above may help.

We have one growing in a pot and two in the ground (Margaret River) all are doing just fine.
