small trees that make a statement Posted 562 days ago a newbee. suggestions pleeeeese. the Kogan and District Progress Association Inc. are considering planting an avenue of small trees along the main street. Kogan is on the Darling Downs with hot summers and frosts in winter. we are looking for something that will provide shade for parked cars and pedestrians, is drought tolerant, not to tall for powerlines, and will make a statement-something contrasting to the native bush, dramatic, colourful that visitors will really remember and we as a town can feel proud off. |

RE: small trees that make a statement Posted 562 days ago Hi Susie, have you thought of Crepe Myrtle 'Indian Summer'? It is drought and frost tolerant (although not tolerant of super strong frosts), comes in various sizes and has awesome flowers from late spring - mid-autumn. |

RE: small trees that make a statement Posted 562 days ago Golden Rain Trees are a lovely street tree, you see them on many streets here in Toowoomba or another thought is the Chinese Tallow. I have a long driveway and have to rely purely on the heavens for water so am interested in what others have to suggest. |

RE: small trees that make a statement Posted 557 days ago I love my albizia - I think it may be Hawaiian originally. We cut off the main stem about shoulder height and it now weeps beautifully over the drive. In spring it looks like fluffy pink chickens sit all over it. |

small trees that make a statement Posted 557 days ago Is the Golden Rain Tree an Invasive type and on the weed list? Or is that something else? |

RE: small trees that make a statement Posted 554 days ago This is my first post on here. I have just googled the Crepe Myrtle and I think I have just fallen in love with this tree! I didnt know it came in different shades of red and purple too. My wife and I are getting a house built in a few months... we will have about 400 Sq Meters to landscape in the back yard and it looks like this tree will be a nice focal point for the corners of the back. We will do some more research on this tree, but I'm really liking it. Thanks Organic Thumb:) |
