Getting rid of persistent weeds

Posted 724 days ago

How do I get rid of the short, grassy weed that looks like a cross between a very small liriope and a dwarf onion weed (without the onion smell). It is really strong and pushes its way up through weedmatting, but breaks off when I try to pull it out of the ground. I want to keep my garden as organic as possible but this weed is proving very hard to get rid of. Any suggestions?

Hullo, I'm new here, but hope I can help and learn from these forums.

That onion weed sounds a bit like a pest we have here, a carrot weed, very hard to get out.

My wife and I usually wait until we have some heavy rain, then the weeds are easier to pull out. Sometimes with the aid of a small garden shovel or fork.

We too try to avoid using the "nasties" but Roundup is reasonably safe, no residual damage, I believe it doesn't hurt frogs, and has a very short with holding period, about a day, so use it first thing in the morning.

Make sure if you do use Roundup that the wind doesn't carry the spray to other plants. I have a back pack and always spray at ground level when I use it.

Could you be talking about nut grass? If so then you will need to use a glyphosate product to be rid of this weed. Use a kids paint brush to apply the weed killer. It's a very safe product.

If it's nut grass you might have to re-apply because one application won't kill all the bulbs at the base of the plants.

And if you do use glyphosate (Roundup) you might find it more effective to use it straight, don't mix it with water.
The brush idea is good, depending how much of it you have to deal with

You could try boiling water every few days until it stops coming up or recovering
