Callistemon Help

Posted 50 days ago

Hiya,

I was wondering if someone could help me out.

I have recently taken over a garden with a number of various types of Callistemon that are well matured but badly cared for. I have pruned all plants back drastically and they are all showing great signs of reshooting and bulking up.

However, one of the plants (a very tall one) is shooting mostly at the top of the tree.
I remember some time ago seeing a program (I’m sure it was on Burkes Backyard) where Don advised you could encourage native trees to reshoot lower down the trunks of the trees by breaking the bark slightly where you wanted the tree to shoot.

Unfortunately, my memory is not good enough for me to remember the specifics of what, when and how to do this.

Does anyone else remember this, or know the process I should be following?
Any help provided will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Michelle
