How big can Camellia trees grow?

Posted 547 days ago

I have a giant Camellia tree that just gets bigger every year, and I'm wondering whether I have something special.

My tree has a canopy that reaches exactly 8 metres across, and the trunk has a diameter of 40cm. It would have to be about seven metres high, and at the moment it's covered in literally thousands of flowers. I've been searching the net to try and find out if this size is unusual, but haven't been able to find much apart from average heights of trees.

We've been in our house for three years, and I think this tree is what sold us on this house- it is such a sight! It's in sandy soil, too, so I have no idea why it has grown so big and lush. Unfortunately I can't take any credit- I do absolutly nothing for it except to give it a light prune every year after it's finished flowering, but can't get anywhere near to the top to prune from above.
I'd really love to hear from people who might be able to tell me if this size is very unusual.
Thanks!

Going by my book some can grow to 6 or 7 metres or more and 7mts spread. So yours is doing fine.
