Out of control Yucca Posted 571 days ago Previous owners planted a Yucca which is now probably 5 metres tall. It has spiky ends on plain green leaves. There is another the same which is variegated. This one has been planted in an area where the base of the Yucca is pushing out onto tiles. We need to stop the base/multiple trunks from expanding whilst not killing the entire tree. We thought we could chainsaw the trunks and base into a better size and allow the trunks to re-shoot but will it simply keep expanding or will the tree die? Ideas? |

RE: Out of control Yucca Posted 571 days ago yes you can chainsaw the trunk to make the plant more manageable, but it will still keep producing plants from the base and reshoot again at the point it was cut off. Likewise, if you want more plants, just pop all the offcuts into soil and they will all put down their own roots. Back to the problem plant, apart from digging it up and replanting elsewhere, all I can suggest is you keep cutting off the multiple stems, which again can be made into individual plants and keep the growing tip at a manageable level. |

RE: Out of control Yucca Posted 559 days ago An out of control 5 metre high yucca is a scary thought!!! If its causing grief then one suggestion would be to erradicate and replant with something more suitable. Bare in mind one needs to be vigil in maintaining a yucca. Personally, unless in a pot,I would rather stick pins in my eyes than go near a yucca |
