Japanese Cherry (Blossom) in Sydney

Posted 942 days ago

Is it feasible to consider growing a cherry blossom tree in Sydney? After a quick search I saw that these are more common in colder high altitude locations and VIC or TAS is better climate than Sydney. I am in a leafy suburb of Sydney with plenty of shade and apparently I am at an altitude of 94m above sea level. What considerations should I have about locating these trees, can they exist in open sunlight or better under larger trees? Should I be concerned about the root systems affecting the property fence? There is a stormwater dean close to the location where I am considering planting these but it it deep under ground, how far down would the root system be?
