Wattle trees - disease? Turning to mulch?

Posted 537 days ago

I have two wattle trees in my garden (12 yo, 5 mtrs tall). They flower now so look OK, but otherwise they have some very unsightly, rough, bulbous growth all over the branches. Is it some kind of disease? The tree started nto block sun to my vegie patch and drop leaves and this "growth" all over the place.
Can and turn them into mulch and use this mulch on the rest of my garden (up till now I used the pine bark mulch in my garden). I have a mixture of pittosporums, syzigiums and few decidous trees (maple, prunus, pyrus). I also have a garden bed (full sun) with cumquat, cuphea, lavender and various annuals for colour.
Any advice will be appreciated.

Does the growth look like sawdust ? If so, it's a caterpillar that bores into the tree and can kill it if not seen to. Lebaycid or similar squirted into the holes will do the trick.
