Prune Tibouchinas when they've finished flowering. They can be tip pruned at any time also. Don't delay pruning or they won't flower as heavily next time.

Tibouchinas like azalea fertiliser so you could chuck a bit of that on; use same quantity as they recommend for azaleas. They also like blood and bone but they love acidic soil, so the azalea fertiliser should do the trick nicely.

Sorry to delay replying; been away. You should fertilise your tibouchina straight after pruning. As for May bush, I used to let mine grow wild as it shapes itself nicely. However, if you need to prune, do it straight after flowering as well. A good all-purpose fertiliser would be okay for the May bush, like blood and bone.
