Mulching and nitrogen loss

Posted 486 days ago

I hear all the time about how mulching with wood chips can cause nitrogen loss, however I never hear how to alleviate this problem. Does anybody know how, using organic methods.

I believe that using well composted mulch eliminates most of this. Don't use green wood chips, allow them to sit for a few months after chipping. I believe they're recommending a depth no thicker than about 5cm now so it doesn't cause an impermeable layer.

Just spread some chook pellets or composted manure down first then the wood chip.
