Tree in pavement

Some plants just drop dead and die and there are others that display an amazing persistence to survive and flourish in the most unusual places. One such tree is a River Red Gum (Eucalyptus camaldulensis) which is growing out from a little crack between the pavement and the building in a suburb of Perth, WA. Probably a seed from a nearby tree blew into the little crack and germinated.

In the case of a tree growing from underneath a building it would be advisable to watch it carefully. Check that there is no cracking in the pavement or the bricks of the building. If there is cracking or a disturbance it would be best to remove the tree. Otherwise it would be safe to leave the tree to continue to amaze passers-by with its persistence.
