‘Burke’s Backyard’ visited the home of fisherman and seafood fanatic Vittorio Salvagno, who has collected shells from around the world and from just about every seafood meal he has eaten. The shells are displayed not only in the house but cover the walls both inside and out.
Materials
The shells are arranged in patterns and glued to masonite. The masonite is then stuck to the wall. The glue that Vittorio uses is Liquid Nails (Selley’s product available from hardware stores and chain-stores for around $4.65 for a cartridge). He seals the shells with a stone floor sealer to make them shinier. Vittorio uses a professional floor sealer by S.C. Johnson called Floorcare Sculpture Sealer which is available from building suppliers and costs around $50 for a 5 litre container. For details of your nearest stockist contact S.C.
