In 1977 classically trained musician, Iva Davies, formed a band called 'The Flowers'. Later the name of the band was changed to 'Icehouse'.
Over the next 20 years, the band produced around 30 hits and sold 2 million albums in Australasia alone. Icehouse has won countless awards, including Mo Awards, Ampex Gold Record Awards and other awards from the Australian Record Industry Association (ARIA), the Australian Performing Rights Association (APRA) and the USA Writers and Performers Association. Iva has written over 100 songs, including chart toppers 'Electric Blue' and 'Great Southern Land'.
Last year, Iva Davies, with Christopher Gordon and Richard Tognetti, composed the score to the new Peter Weir film 'Master and Commander', starring Russell Crowe. Icehouse has recently released a new album titled after its first single, 'Heroes' - a version of the David Bowie classic that coincided with the Athens Summer Olympics. In early 2005 Iva plans to re-release early Icehouse material that is now unavailable.
Don visited Iva and family at their Sydney residence, which features a pool, spa and fabulous ocean views.
The DVD of the movie 'Master and Commander' is available now from all retailers. Cost: double disc version (with extra footage) around $50, single disc version $25.
