People & Places
Don visited celebrity gardener, Donna Hay, at her country property in western New South Wales.
Donna Hay's first book of recipes was an instant success. Over the past seven years, she has published seven cookbooks, with sales in excess of two million. In November 2001 she released a bi-monthly self-titled magazine, which today sells around 97,000 copies per issue.
Donna's success comes from simple presentation - books that are easy to read, easy to follow and have good photographs. She says this is probably reflective of today's society - expensive dinner parties have given way to more informal get togethers. Her new book, 'The Instant Cook', features recipes that are quick and easy to prepare, yet good enough to serve at dinner parties.
Donna has received a number of awards for simple and fast food ideas that are also healthy, including awards from The Food Media Club of Australia, The Jacobs Creek World Food Media Awards, the Silver Awards and the Vittoria Australian Food Writers' Award.
In our segment Donna served food on the Donna Hay Home range of dinnerware, now available in David Jones stores.
'The Instant Cook' by Donna Hay (ISBN 0732281059) is published by Harper Collins and is available at bookstores for $45.
