Don showed how to turn an el cheapo, zinc-plated galvanised watering can into garden art.

It’s easy!

1. The first step is to drill some holes in the bottom of the watering can for drainage.
2. Add some potting mix to the watering can, put your plant in, and then top up the mix. The plant Don chose is a new variety of cordyline, called ‘Sundance’, which has brilliant red new foliage.
3. Don used a large sized plant to create an instant effect for television, so he had to pare down the rootball with a knife until it fitted through the small hole at the top of the watering can. If you were doing this at home, a smaller plant would be easier to pot up and cheaper to buy.
