Surprisingly for many the best time to water our garden is during rain & the best time to water pot plants is immediately after rain.

Pot Plants:

During rain any extra water just flows out the hole at the bottom of pots, but while it’s raining plants actually pump water away as they open up little holes in the leaves and, if you don’t water after rain they often dry out, get sick & can die. Even though you might think it’s unnecessary, this isn’t the case & you should water your pot plants after rain & you’ll get healthier and better grown plants.

The Garden:

Many authorities advise that you don’t water your garden while it’s raining. However, the best time in a drought to turn on your hose or sprinkler (depending on what you are allowed to do) is while it’s raining. This helps the water penetrate even further and in the long run you’ll need less water.

What often isn’t know is that, if you only water in a shallow way with just a bucket of water, all the roots come to the surface and, as soon as there’s some hot dry weather the plants will really suffer. A good solid soaking even once every couple of months will really help your plants. So, water while it’s raining.

Great Plant that Doesn’t Need Much Water

Something that’s not well known is that lavenders don’t need much water. They are beautiful plants which are very rewarding via their perfume. They grow in craggy little rocks in the middle of the Mediterranean Sea but don’t need a lot of water at all once they’ve been planted a few weeks and had some water to settle in.
