The next time you reach for the phone to order some junk food for a quick meal, think again. All you need is an Asian bamboo steamer to prepare a delicious and healthy meal in about 10 minutes. A bamboo steamer costs around $20 and has a few layers. Geoff prepared a meal of steamed chicken and vegetables. Simply sit the bamboo steamer in a pan of simmering water and place the vegetables and meat in separate layers. The carrots and leeks were steamed on the lower level and the chicken fillet was steamed with ginger and soy sauce on the top layer and covered with foil. An Asian bamboo steamer is suitable for fish, vegetables and even re-heating pasta.

Tip: Do not let the water dry out in the pan while steaming.

Asian bamboo steamers are available from Asian food stores, speciality cooking stores or large department stores and cost around $20.
