Geoff Jansz visited his favourite specialty kitchen store, The Essential Ingredient, at Camperdown in Sydney. There are specialty kitchen shops all around Australia and they stock wonderful gadgets to make cooking easier!

Geoff filled his shopping baskets with lots of gizmos and gadgets, including:

• Porcelain Ginger Grater ($8.05)Ginger is fibrous, but you don’t want the fibres in your recipes. Ginger graters give you the ginger and its juice, but leave the fibres behind.
• Wooden Reamer ($3.70)This wooden reamer gets into every nook and cranny of your citrus fruit, extracting every bit of juice.
• Food Cover ($28.90 - $38.00)Umbrella food covers are great for picnics. They’re designed to protect your food from flies and the summer heat.
• Vegetable Bristle Brush ($6.55)Excellent for scrubbing non-stick pans or woks without damaging them.
• Vegetable Peeler ($7.90)Cheap, flimsy vegetable peelers often need replacing. These are sturdy, sharp, and the blade won’t pop out.
• Silicone Spoon/Spatula ($15.15)Geoff says that wooden spoons are "so yesterday". Silicone spoons are flexible, heat resistant and they last a long long time.
• Microplane Ribbon Grater ($40.65)Grating cheese, chocolate or any other food is easy with a sharp microplane grater. They’re available with different sized grater holes – all cost the same.
