A state-of-the-art pool is at the heart of Jamie Loft's design for this contemporary Melbourne home. The owner's list of requirements included a beautiful outlook from the living areas of the house, an all-weather outdoor entertaining area and large outdoor kitchen, a safe area for the children to play, a lap pool for the adults to exercise and a spa where they could relax. Jamie has incorporated all of those elements in a stunning design, which is both functional and luxurious.

New millennium pool

Some of the features of this fabulous pool include: An infloor cleaning system, which removes all the debris from the bottom, skims the surface and also acts as a water circulation system. A frameless, glass pool fence made of 12mm toughened safety glass. This fence looks stylish and does not obscure the view of the pool, as well as being practical and very safe. At the back of the pool, Coke bottle acrylic panels are attached to a blueboard wall in a zinc steel frame. This wall hides the pumps and piping, and also serves as a backdrop to a copper water feature. The Coke bottle acrylic panels pick up the colour of the pool and are lit from behind to create different effects at night. (Note: the acrylic panels are the same colour as the original Coke bottles, hence the name Coke bottle acrylic.) Water shoots from slots at the top of the water feature, down copper slides into a tiled channel at the base. The water then runs to the centre of the channel and spills into the pool. Copper bands were incorporated into the paving to tie in with the copper water feature and create interest in the large open area Plants have been kept to a minimum to suit the lifestyle of the owners. As well as the existing elm and birch trees, there is a row of pears (Pyrus 'Winter Glow') at the back of the pool.
