Greek Pots

Greek Pots

At "The House of Zeus" in East Kew in Victoria, you won’t find the Greek king of the gods, but you will find some marvellous, hand made Mediterranean pottery. The pots are imported by Theo Kyrkilis, who set up his showroom with the aim of recreating the mood of the famous Knossos Palace in Crete, the island said to be the birthplace of Zeus, and the home of Minoan style earthenware.

The pots

The Minos range of pots are made in the traditional manner, just as they’ve been made for hundreds and hundreds of years. They come from Crete, about 30 kilometres from the capital, Iraklio, in the heartland of the olive and wine producing country. Each pot is different – the styles and colours vary so much that Theo has difficulty putting a catalogue together

But how much are they?

Whenever pots like this have been available in Australia, they’ve cost thousands of dollars. The great thing about Theo’s pots is that they are very affordable. Prices range from $10 to $1000, depending on the pot size, shape and style, and you can order by mail from anywhere in Australia.
