Frosted Glass

Rita Hill showed how to make clear glass panels look frosted using spray adhesive and drafting paper. This temporary frosting is ideal if you want to disguise an ugly view or create some instant privacy. If you’re renting, you can simply peel off the paper when you leave.

You will need

  • drafting film
  • repositional spray adhesive
  • scalpel or Stanley knife or scissors
  • ruler and pencil

Instructions

  1. Measure the window.
  2. Copy your measurements onto the drafting film using a ruler and pencil, and then cut the film to size.
  3. Spray the film with the adhesive, then leave until it becomes tacky (about 30 seconds). (Note: the longer the spray is left on the film before applying to the window, the easier it will be to remove.)
  4. Stick the film onto the window.

Cost

Drafting film – around $5 per sheet from art shops 3M Repositionable Spray Adhesive – $27.60

Sandblasted or frosted panels would cost $450 – $600 installed (more if using safety glass). Rita’s method only cost around $52.60.
