Cutting Edge Bathroom

Don looked at the very latest in bathroom furniture and accessories at the Taps Design showroom in Darlinghurst, Sydney. He found that modern bathrooms are just as functional as the bathrooms of yesteryear, but they look better and they’re much more fun. They are also becoming smaller, more streamlined and more stylish. Sinks and vanities are being replaced by bowls on wash stands (reminiscent of the wash stands and basins of the Victorian era) or they’re attached to walls by simple brackets. Porcelain sanitaryware is being replaced by stainless steel, marble, timber and glass products used in different combinations to create an ultra modern look or to blend in with more traditional styles. These materials are used to maximise space in small bathrooms or to create the illusion of space.

Try before you buy

Both the Melbourne showroom of Rogers Seller & Myhill and the Taps Design showroom in Sydney have operating shower and tapware sections, where you can actually try out the different showerheads and taps.

Go shopping

You won’t be able to find all these cutting edge designs in every bathroom shop. But take the time to seek them out and have a look at them. At first you might find it hard to come to grips with, say, a wooden cone sitting on a metal tray as your next washbasin. But go home and think it through. Then come back and have another look. Bathrooms are attracting some of the world’s leading designers. Their solutions are daring and imaginative, and they could make your life even more exciting (and more fun).
