Colour Combinations

There's no such thing as a bad colour but there are some bad colour combinations. Tracy Marsh shared a few tips and basic rules on using colour to decorate in your home. Simply stick to one colour theme; reds (pale pink through to crimson), yellows (lemon through to bright orange), greens (lime through to bright green), mauves (lilac through to deep purple), blues (aqua through to navy blue) or safe naturals (pale grey through to dark creams). When decorating choose one colour theme and add to the room with colours from that theme, you can't go wrong. Combining colours can be a bit more difficult but start by looking in magazines to get an idea of what colours appeal to you. A great way to get inspiration is from paintings because artists know how to combine colours. Collect clippings of colour combinations you like and work from there. Another way of combining colours is to find a rug or patterned fabrics that you like and use it as the basis of decorating a room. If you stick to the colours in the rug they'll work really well together. Use colours that are the same tone and brightness. The general rule is not to mix earth tones with bright tones.
