Regular Burke’s Backyard contributor, Peter Valder, has written a wonderful new book titled Gardens of China. In the book Peter describes over 200 of the gardens he has visited in China. They include surviving imperial gardens and those of retired officials, courtyards and gardens of temples, enclosures of ancient burial grounds and imperial tombs, as well as the public parks, botanical gardens and arboreta that have sprung up since 1949. Gardens of China is essential reading for anyone interested in Chinese gardens, garden history and Chinese culture.

The new book is a companion to Peter’s previous book, Garden Plants of China (1999), which won international and national acclaim. It was selected as Garden Reference Book of the Year in 1999 in the UK, American Library Association Choice Award for outstanding reference book, and Garden Book of the Year 2000 in Australia.
