The most often used name for the white magnolia is Magnolia denudata.  Deciduous magnolias produce their spectacular winter and early spring blooms on naked branches (hence the name denudata – denuded of leaves). Although expensive plants to buy they are long-lived, slow growing trees which bring a stunning display to your garden each year. Colours range from port wine through burgundy shades to white (Magnolia denudata).

Apart from the magnificent perfumed flowers, the trunks can also be quite beautiful.

They are fine for many areas of Australia – although not for the tropics.

Many books say they are acid loving plants but this is incorrect and they actually like a touch of lime.
