Homemade Lemonade – The French Alternative

Bryan reminisced about the ‘good old days’, when kids were seen but not heard and wives worked in kitchens wearing aprons! Jackie thought he was joking, but decided to indulge him by making some delicious, old-fashioned lemonade.

Ingredients

4 cups white sugar
2 cups water
2 cups fresh lemon juice
2 teaspoons citric acid
2 teaspoons tartaric acid
water or soda water
ice
mint leaves

Method

Place sugar and water in a saucepan and bring to the boil. Simmer for five minutes, then add the lemon juice, citric acid and tartaric acid. Bring to the boil again, then take off the heat and funnel into sterilised bottles. Put some of the mixture into a glass and top up with water (or soda water if you like your lemonade fizzy). Add ice, and garnish with a sprig of fresh mint.
