Answer: Hi Lisa, I haven’t got much to go on. Firstly, local knowledge re the best plants is the only useful guide. The local nursery or garden club will have the answers. It appears that your problem is extreme heat radiated from  the fence and the driveway. This heat is frying the plants and cooking the soil till it’s dry. So the MUST DO bit is to instal a poly pipe irrigation system along the entire garden bed with one dripper or spray head per plant. Fit a battery powered tap timer on the tap and away you go!  Don
