Winter Perfumes

Winter is here and this can be a truly excellent time of the year in the garden.

So many plants produce perfumed flowers in winter.  Many gardens are more open to sunlight after the deciduous leaves fall.  The still, sunlit days of winter with the wafting perfumes of daphne, luculias, winter honeysuckle and jonquils can be serene and relaxing.

Daphne is a challenge to grow, but Yates Anti Rot solves its main problem of root rot.  Daphne has a sweet citrus-like perfume that cuts through the crisp winter air.  So too does the perfume from the flowers of the winter honeysuckle.  This is a shrub, not a climber.

Luculias are soft pink or white vanilla-perfumed flowers.  These are small trees that are a little fussy, but well worth the trouble.

Jonquils are the hardiest of the daffodil group of bulbs and they have the strongest perfume too.

Enjoy winter in Australia – this is a great season.
