Don’s Tips: Rare Plants

Rare Plants

Years ago there used to be specialist rare plant nurseries where you could get stunning little treasures of plants.

These nurseries grew rare Japanese maples or dahlias or chrysanthemums or hibiscus or boronias or rare native plants like Sturt’s Desert Peas or Desert Mulla Mullas.

For the most part these rare plant nurseries are gone now ….

BUT

Some general nurseries do stock these rare plants from time to time. My local nursery recently had the rare Australian native rhododendron Rhododendron Lochie. I snapped it up. Even hardware stores often stock real treasures.

Recently I noticed that Bunnings had Sturt’s Desert Peas, Mulla Mullas, boronias, rare dahlias, and several other very rare plants.

So, pop into your local nursery or local hardware store and have a look around at least once a month to see what rare plants they have.

It pays off! I came home with my Sturt’s Desert Peas and some Mulla Mullas – now I’m happy.

Hooroo!
