Don’s Tips: Power Equipment

Power Equipment

Almost all of us men love noisy, smelly equipment. Lawn mowers, lawn edgers, blowers and chain saws.

But is it a good thing? Well chain saws are very dangerous and no-one should buy one without getting some sort of training in chainsaw operation as well as getting all of the safety gear such as a safety helmet with mesh visor and ear protection.

Mind you, using a bow saw by hand instead of a chain saw is much safer and better for your fitness – especially your pecs.

When work commitments allow me time to get into the garden, I still do my edges by hand using a sharpened spade. I try to rake up the leaves with a cheap plastic rake – again this is far better than paying money to go to the gym. Leaf blowers can cause ear damage and mostly they just move the leaves around rather than solving a leaf problem.

If you use manual equipment for gardening, you will remain fitter and healthier. And it is vastly cheaper and better than going to the gym. People stop going to the gym at quite a young age anyway and then they lose fitness.

Use the backyard to stay fit. Encourage the kids to come outside with you so they can do some physical activities too instead of sitting inside with ipads and computers.

Hooroo! Don.
