Don’s Tips: Old Husband’s Tales

Old Husbands’ Tales

Today we’ll look at some classic Old Husbands’ Tales – i.e. gardening myths.

  1. Water the garden every 2 days.

This is nonsense.  A thorough watering once a week for an established garden is by far the best.  A deep watering WITH A SPRINKLER for about 45 minutes.  Light watering every day or two can seriously damage plants.  It encourages roots near the soil surface, which dry out and die on hot days.

  1. Watering during the day can cause leaf burn.

This is also nonsense.

Whenever plants are dry and need watering, do it straight away.  Watering during the day also saves water since you are more likely to forget about a sprinkler running at night.

For established garden plants, DEEPLY once a week.

Hooroo!
