Don’s Tips: Australian Native Violet

Australian Native Violet

Australian Native Violet

The Australian native violet is one of the most useful of all groundcovers.  It grows in semi-shaded areas and loves wet feet.

The Australian native violet has blue/purple and white flowers almost all year round.  It spreads by runners much like couch grass or buffalo grass.

If you have an ugly shady area beside the house or down the backyard, why not think of the native violet?  Two or three plants will rapidly spread to create a carpet of green leaves and purple and white flowers.  This solves so many problems.

Trivia buffs might note that when the actor Steve McQueen was dying from cancer, he both ate the violets and endured Aussie violet enemas to try to cure the cancer.

This treatment sadly failed – so don’t try it.

We lost a great actor.

Hooroo!
